Aronia berries are a true superfruit. They have three times the antioxidant levels as blueberries or acai, and are considered by many to be the most nutrient-dense fruit. They are low in sugar and contain the highest levels of anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins, which are powerful antioxidants. Best when cooked. Note that because of their low sugar content, Aronia berries are VERY tart and many people prefer to not east them "straight". What in the world is an Aronia Berry?That may be your first question because not many people know about the Aronia Plant and it's Berries....yet. And Wintercrest Farms is aiming to help change that!
The Aronia plant is an indigenous plant to the United States and at one time almost became extinct. With 3 times the antioxidants of blueberries and 2 times that of the Acai berry, it is considered to be one of the most nutrient dense fruits.
Aronia Berries are quickly becoming noticed. In a recent report, CBS News said this of the berry: "Aronia boasts a unique lineup of nutritional qualities. The berry has one of the highest antioxidant values ever recorded for any other fruits, including superfoods such as blueberries, acai berries and goji berries, according to research published last year in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry."
Here at Wintercrest Farms, we are currently farming 2 1/2 acres of Aronia berry bushes near beautiful Glacier Park in Kalispell, Montana. We have been growing according to USDA ORGANIC standards with the intention of applying for certification. What does USDA mean for our customers? That means we do not use ANY pesticides or non natural fertilizers!
What does USDA organic mean to us? Lots and Lots of weeding :) but we are happy to do it to bring a product that is not only safe but also of the highest quality to our customers.
